Cindy Kolacny, RN
President-Elect
Cindy Kolacny has been the Clinic Nurse Supervisor for St. Mary’s Family Medicine Center for about 5 months. She is a new Colorado convert, previously a flatlander from Kansas. Cindy graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University; her special interests include Emergent Care in the out-patient setting, Advocacy of the Nursing Role and Nurse Managed Coumadin Clinic. She has been a member of FMRNA since 2000, and has served as a Member-at-Large, Program Committee Chair, and now as Treasurer. She lives in a Grand Junction, Colorado with her husband, daughter, and pets.

Jane Clifton is the AFPRN Nominations Chair and former President from 2002-2004. She has been a member of AFPRN and on the Board since 1994. She has been with the Miami Valley Hospital Family Practice Residency Program in Dayton, Ohio as a RN for 32 years. She has been the Nurse Manager for 22 of those years. Miami Valley has 21 residents and 10 faculty that see patients in their office. Her special interests include research, quality improvement, and continuing education for the nursing staff.

Kay Anderson, RN

Kay is the clinic administrator for Charlton Methodist Family Practice/Sports Medicine Center in Dallas Texas. She graduated from nursing school in Illinois in 1976. She has worked for Methodist for the last 25 years, and in Family Medicine for the last 7. The program has 18 residents, 2 sports medicine fellows and 8 faculty that see patients in a faculty practice model. She has been an AFPRN member for 5 years and has served on the membership committee for the last year. Other memberships include AAON and MGMA.

I graduated from Wesley Guild Hospital in 1982 and moved to the United States with husband and children in 1986. Worked as a medical/surgical nurse at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center from 1988 - 2002. I joined Penn Family Care after graduating from Widener University in Chester Pa in 2002. I have been the Clinical Coordinator in our Practice for about
4 years. Penn Family Care has 24 faculties and fellows, 18 residents and 1 physician assistant. I have been a member of FMRNA for 3 years and RAP now RPS has been a good forum where nurses can share and learn from each other. I am glad to serve as the Communication Chair with this great organization.

Barbara Warner, RN, MSN,
Membership Committee Chair
I have been the Health Educator at The Toledo Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Toledo, OH since 2002. I graduate of The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing 1972, and received a bachelor of science in nursing (1977) and master of science in nursing (2001) from The University of Toledo and Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. My previous clinical experience has been in pediatrics, obstetrics and nursing education. I have held positions as a faculty member at The Toledo Hospital School of Nursing, Owens Community College and The University of Toledo Community and Technical College. Professional organization memberships include, Sigma Theta Tau, FMRNA and STFM. I serve as membership chair on the FMRNA board.
Our residency is a 6-6-6, dual accredited program. We have 8 physician faculty, a social worker, a pharmacist, a behaviorist, and a health educator on faculty. My current responsibilities include,education of residents in performance improvement; patient education and preventive health; selected education and counseling of specific patients; coordinating obstetric continuity experiences; and developing and overseeing curriculum. Special interests are immunizations, preventive health care and patient education.
In my spare time I enjoy relaxing with my husband in the mountains of western New York, spending time with our four young adult children, our dog, Daisy and cat, Pyewacket.

Brenda has been Nurse manager of the Baton Rouge General Family Health Center for 8 years, while also serving more recently as liaison to the Informatics department as the system-wide use of electronic medical records begins. She received her BSN from Northwestern State University in Louisiana in 1971. The Family Medicine Residency Program has 24 residents and 6 faculty. She has been a member of FMRNA for 4 years and this past year was elected to the board and is the Program Chair. Her special interests include beekeeping, volunteering in the community, and traveling… Soooo, she encourages you all to get involved, and BEE HAPPY!!

Marcia graduated from Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in 1989 and obtained her BSN from Grandview College in 1992. She has been a member of FMRNA since 2003 and on the Board since 2008. Marcia chairs the Promotions Committee. Other organizational affiliations include MGMA, CMGMA, and STFM.

Lauren Hayes RN, Clinical Manager for 6/6/6 residency program with 8 faculty doctors. Graduated from Mott College with Associates Degree in Nursing. I have med-surg background in the hospital, then went to Visiting Nurses, where I remained for 8 years, 6 of which were in management. I have been with my residency program for almost 9 years. I belong to the FMRNA, STFM, and enjoy OB nursing, with a special interest in wound and ostomy care. Chair of the Research Committee, and member of the board for FMRNA. I joined the FMRNA one year after I came to the residency, and it has been the best resource around, for me.

Christina Bell, RN

Christina graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing with a BSN in 1998 and moved to southern California to pursue my master’s degree. She worked as an Operating Room nurse in a busy multi-specialty surgery center while completing my degree. In 2003, Christina graduated from the University of Phoenix with an MSN in Nursing Administration and Education. It was then that she found an opening in a local residency program in Long Beach. She was hired and has been working at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center Family Medicine Residency Program since 2004. She loves working with the residency program and being part of an educational component of the medical field.
Christina attended RAP in 2004 and joined FMRNA. She became a board member in 2006 and enjoys working with the FMRNA. "This organization is so vital to the work I do in our residency program." Christina says. "I utilize the knowledge I have gained through this group and count on the contacts I have made each and every day."
Christina is a member of Sigma Theta Tau and have earned a nursing excellence award in Advancing and Leading the Profession in my hospital organization.Outside of work, Christina has a family and enjoys spending as much time with them as she can. She also loves reading, hiking and camping.

Kathy Thielen, RN, BA
Kathy has been a member of FMRNA since 2000 and is currently a Board Member at Large and a Research Committee Member. She has been the Nurse Manager at the Duluth Family Practice Residency Program since 1999. She graduated from St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Duluth in 1981, the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth in 2007, and is currently in graduate school at Bethel University, Arden Hills, MN. Kathy is directly involved with the clinic’s EHR, the Anticoagulation Program and CPR instruction. Kathy grew up in Duluth and resides there with her husband, son and pets. Her free time is spent attending school and sport activities, reading great books, and traveling on camping trips.

Joanne Smetters, RN
Joann K. Smetters has been the clinic supervisor for the TSC Family Health Center located in Dixon, Illinois for the past 17 months. She was the nurse coordinator for 8 months prior to becoming the clinic supervisor and the site director’s staff nurse prior to that. The TSC Family Health Center houses the Dixon Rural Training Track in Family Medicine, which opened their doors July 1, 2005. It is a small rural residency program and is affiliated with the University Of Illinois College Of Medicine in Rockford, Illinois. There are six residents, two faculty, and one midlevel provider that see patients at this clinic. She is involved in the standardization of the EMR, writing policies and procedures, the new Anticoagulation Nurse Clinic, and CPR instruction. She graduated from Sauk Valley Community College in 1993 and is currently in the process of completing her BSN at Northern Illinois University, DeKalb, Illinois. She became a member of FMRNA in 2007 and became a Board Member at Large at the 2009 RPS Annual Conference.
